Sweet success for Apple - Cecil scores for me

Sweet success for Apple - Horse Racing - AOL Sport:

"Apple Charlotte emerged as yet another top-class contender for Henry Cecil with a gutsy success in the Swettenham Stud Fillies' Trial Stakes at Newbury.

Cecil already has a live Oaks hope in Midday and this daughter of Royal Applause looks similarly smart after triumphing as 13-8 favourite in the 10-furlong heat. Uvinza set out to make all, with Tom Queally happy to sit on her heels aboard Apple Charlotte before kicking to the front over two furlongs out.

The easy ground proved more of a test for Cecil's filly, though, and The Miniver Rose made a good battle of it inside the final half-furlong. However, Apple Charlotte responded for pressure to pull two and a quarter lengths clear at the line.

Cecil said: 'She could have settled a bit better, but they didn't go very quick early on and the further she went, the better. She's in the Coronation Stakes and has won twice over a mile. She's not in the Ribblesdale at the moment and we really need to have a think about things.'"
