rp analysis
The overnight rain meant that the ground was very different from declaration time and was now officially good to soft, soft in places. A strong headwind would have made this even harder hard work for the horses and the winning time for this modest apprentice handicap was 8.37 seconds slower than standard.

It´s probably significant that the first two home were the slowest to exit the stalls and that meant that they were sheltered from the wind early, whilst the leaders may have gone off too quick in the conditions. The pair ultimately pulled a long way clear of the rest.

This was a case of deja vu for apprentice Nathan Alison, who successfully replaced Amy Scott aboard Golden Prospect for John Hills in the finale at Brighton the previous day, and repeated the feat here courtesy of MISS MOJITO, who didn´t go off unbacked. She had finished a long way behind Flying Silks at Kempton last time after walking out of the stalls and was 9lb higher than when winning over course and distance in June, but it made no difference and, having been settled well off the pace early, she came through to lead over a furlong out and kept finding enough to just hold on with nothing to spare.

Gallego, a well-beaten last of 15 at Newbury last time but unbeaten infour previous visits here including three over this trip, was given a similar ride to the winner. Doing all his best work late, he would have got there in another stride and lost his perfect course record in honourable style.
