Ayr confident of avoiding slip‑ups on return of the turn | Sport | The Guardian

The jackpot rolls over to Ayr today, I just hope that the clerk of the course's confidence is not misplaced.

Ayr confident of avoiding slip‑ups on return of the turn | Sport | The Guardian: "Hazel Peplinski, the new clerk of the course at Ayr, said yesterday that she is 'not at all worried' as horses prepare to race round the track's home turn today for the first time since a seven-horse pile-up forced the abandonment of a meeting on 13 July.

Amendments have since been made to the bend, where three horses fell in a similar incident in 2005, and several have since worked round it without incident. The 2.10 race this afternoon, though, will be its first test at racing speed.

'I've no worries about the bend,' Peplinski said. 'There's so much space at Ayr when it's used properly, and we've had professional help to make optimum use of the space. It looks superb and the turf is in great nick.'"
