Bethell's Max powers to success (From The Northern Echo)

One for the notebook. . .

Bethells Max powers to success (From The Northern Echo):

"JAMES BETHELL is set to scour the programme book for another imminent opportunity for Templetuohy Max after he recorded a decisive success in the Weatherbys Bloodstock Insurance Handicap at Redcar.

The visored runner was soon at the head of affairs under Graham Gibbons and while many of his rivals were hard at work after turning for home, his jockey sat motionless until approaching the two-furlong marker.

Once given a reminder, the 7-1 shot stretched even further clear – and was even able to ease down in the closing stages to come home four lengths clear of Spirit Of France.

Bethell said: ‘‘Last time at Nottingham we gave the instructions to Darryll (Holland) not to be frightened, so he went and made the running and just got caught.
‘‘So we said to Graham to do the same, and it is always quite difficult to make that ground up on this fast ground. He just went on and on.

‘‘I’ll have to go home and see what there is for him, but I think he ought to come out under a penalty as you just wouldn’t know what the handicapper will do.’’ Gibbons had earlier produced another fine frontrunning ride on El Dececy, who made the most of a drop in class to land the Racing UK Sky 432 Selling Stakes"
