Back to normal I hope with three winners at the jackpot race meeting Tuesday, doc reckoned I have had a viral respiratory tract infection and boy have I felt grotty!
Haydock Jackpot Placepot & Stop at a Winner Horse Racing Tips
2.30 Olympic Ceremony
3.00 Elusive Sue won 5/2, Call To Arms 2nd 4/1 Ex £14.90
3.30 Barons Spy, Dark Mischief won 9/4
4.00 Burning Incense nr
4.30 Ascendant won 3/1
5.00 Sporting Gesture 4th!, Arab League 3rd 4/1
I have to admit to kicking myself for passing over Barron's 7/1 winner in the first at Haydock......with a non-runner in the 4.00 (fav won) that would have been two timmes the placepot payout again, PLACEPOT £46.70 to a £1 stake, grrr...yet another lesson learned though.

Thursday Free Horse Racing Tips:
"Doncaster Jackpot Placepot tips - stop at a winner/profit
2.00 Coordinated Cut won 10/11
2.35 Eastern Aria 2nd 7/2, Alfathaa
3.10 Swilly Ferry won 16/1, Take Ten
3.45 Shemima
4.20 Bahamian Music, Water Biscuit
4.50 Royal Confidence"
Hat trick for the 3 best bets too with 2 1sts, a placer at 9/1 and a sucesful lay. The email read "The first two best bets, Guest Book and Epsom Salts are fancied to win but in the lucky last at Doncaster I am going to oppose (lay) Tagula Night 11/2, the 6lb rise in the weights may just foil her hat trick bid and I like the look of an outsider, Atlantic Story 14/1, 5th in this last year, the tongue tie, blinkers and cracking draw could just add up to a big run today.
Best bets: Guest Book won 15/8 2.20 C, Epsom Salts won 3/1 3.20 E, Tagula Night lay 5.25 D
Tagula Night 8th and Atlantic Story 3rd 9/1
Doncaster looks tricky today but 2.00 Coordinated Cut looks the banker of the day. In the 3.10 (Exacta) race Johnston runs no less than 5 so I hope to have put the right 2 up for the exacta which would be big returns for small stakes but is obviously high risk today.

As I proof the tips stop at a winner in time order the 11/1 winner was not proofed, that would have strengthened my position at the the top of the table for proofed tips on Racing Index over the past year! It can have its quirks though using Rcing Index "stop at a winner"
it is time sensitive so if races are late off or delayed for any reason I can either end up proofing after a winner or missing proofing a winner. . .

rp analysis
The overnight rain meant that the ground was very different from declaration time and was now officially good to soft, soft in places. A strong headwind would have made this even harder hard work for the horses and the winning time for this modest apprentice handicap was 8.37 seconds slower than standard.
It´s probably significant that the first two home were the slowest to exit the stalls and that meant that they were sheltered from the wind early, whilst the leaders may have gone off too quick in the conditions. The pair ultimately pulled a long way clear of the rest.
This was a case of deja vu for apprentice Nathan Alison, who successfully replaced Amy Scott aboard Golden Prospect for John Hills in the finale at Brighton the previous day, and repeated the feat here courtesy of MISS MOJITO, who didn´t go off unbacked. She had finished a long way behind Flying Silks at Kempton last time after walking out of the stalls and was 9lb higher than when winning over course and distance in June, but it made no difference and, having been settled well off the pace early, she came through to lead over a furlong out and kept finding enough to just hold on with nothing to spare.
Gallego, a well-beaten last of 15 at Newbury last time but unbeaten infour previous visits here including three over this trip, was given a similar ride to the winner. Doing all his best work late, he would have got there in another stride and lost his perfect course record in honourable style.

Kieren Fallon to ride at Kempton Friday
Kieren Fallon's agent has confirmed the jockey will be in action at Kempton on Friday evening as he makes his long-awaited comeback from suspension.
Fallon's 18-month ban, imposed by the French authorities after he tested positive for a prohibited substance, finally comes to an end on September 4.
The jockey's agent David Pollington said: "He's definitely going to Kempton and we have nothing really firmed up for the day meeting at Lingfield as yet."
He added: "It's early days so we'll see, but Lingfield is the only place he could go if he does ride at one of the afternoon meetings.
"On Saturday we're heading to Haydock for High Standing. I believe he is going to run so we're heading there. After that you never know, we might even kick off to Wolverhampton."

Hamilton abandoned
Click here to find out more!:
"FRIDAY'S evening fixture at Hamilton has been abandoned after overnight rain left parts of the track waterlogged.
The forecast on Thursday was for heavy rain that evening and although only 7mm fell at the track, officials decided conditions were not fit for racing following an inspection on Friday morning.
Clerk of the course Hazel Peplinski confirmed the bad news, she said: 'We have had to abandon the meeting as parts of the track are holding the water and it would be too risky to race.
'It's a real shame as the majority of the track seems fine but the 7mm of overnight rain has caused certain areas to become waterlogged and it is just not worth the risk."

Ayr confident of avoiding slip‑ups on return of the turn | Sport | The Guardian
The jackpot rolls over to Ayr today, I just hope that the clerk of the course's confidence is not misplaced.
Ayr confident of avoiding slip‑ups on return of the turn | Sport | The Guardian: "Hazel Peplinski, the new clerk of the course at Ayr, said yesterday that she is 'not at all worried' as horses prepare to race round the track's home turn today for the first time since a seven-horse pile-up forced the abandonment of a meeting on 13 July.
Amendments have since been made to the bend, where three horses fell in a similar incident in 2005, and several have since worked round it without incident. The 2.10 race this afternoon, though, will be its first test at racing speed.
'I've no worries about the bend,' Peplinski said. 'There's so much space at Ayr when it's used properly, and we've had professional help to make optimum use of the space. It looks superb and the turf is in great nick.'"

Look for some Comedy value with Johnston’s hope (From The Northern Echo): "Look for some Comedy value with Johnston’s hope"
"MARK Johnston has his string in fantastic nick and looks set to add to his tally at Southwell with Comedy Hall. The juvenile looked in need of the experience on his first racecourse visit at Newmarket, so the fact he still managed to finish fifth is testament to his ability.
That was probably a fair effort given the winner, Mr David, has since gone on to acquit himself well in Group company, while the third home, Marine Spirit, has gone on to subsequent success.
Comedy Hall can only improve from that first outing and it would be surprising if he does not make his presence felt in the southwell-racecourse.co.uk Median Auction Maiden Stakes"
A wee double with Exemplary in the first methinks.

race comments
Gold Party 5thhails from a yard that is now renowned for success with 2yos. He proved very easy to back and ran green, but there was still something to like about the way hefinished his race. There should be more to come on his next outing.
It was a shocking effort from Spanish Acclaim, last who was having his first outing since unseating from the gates 80 days earlier and has been gelded since. He proved a nightmare from the off, hanging violently left before pulling his way to the lead down the centre and was nigh on pulled up in the end. He is clearly now one to avoid at all costs.

Home comfort for Bastiman (From The Northern Echo)
Home comfort for Bastiman (From The Northern Echo): "ROBIN Bastiman brought the Coolmore Nunthorpe Stakes home to Yorkshire as he saddled Borderlescott to successive wins in the Group One sprint on the final day of the Ebor meeting.
The Wetherby trainer was rewarded for 40 years hard graft last summer when Borderlescott provided his first success at the top level. Unfortunately for him, the race took place 160 miles south at Newmarket.
The weather which caused last year’s abandonment at York favoured Bastiman this time and provided the rattling quick ground which suits his seven-year-old so well.
The 9-1 chance also got the lightning-fast pace which he craves and came with his challenge entering the final furlong under Neil Callan to edge ahead of front-running Benbaun and deny his fellow Yorkshire rival by a neck.
Radiohead, the sole juvenile in the 16-strong field, excelled himself by finishing strongly to be a length-and-a-quarter down in third"

Ebor can make a Precision Break (From The Northern Echo):
"Orpen Grey is the choice in the Irish Thoroughbred Marketing Gimcrack Stakes.
Although he will clash with top-drawer juvenile Monsieur Chevalier, Orpen Grey looked a classy individual when just finding Arcano too good at Newmarket last month.
Tom Dascombe’s colt appears pretty progressive and while he will have to be on his game, a victory would not be the biggest of surprises."
May have drifted a tad but my pick also!

Trainer Burke has ban appeal dismissed (From The Northern Echo)
Trainer Burke has ban appeal dismissed (From The Northern Echo): "NORTH Yorkshire racehorse trainer Karl Burke has had his appeal against a one-year ban dismissed by the British Horseracing Authority.
Burke, based at Middleham, was warned off after admitting passing information for reward at a hearing last month, but had hoped to get his punishment reduced.
However, the BHA's appeal board, chaired by Sir William Gage, rejected his appeal on Monday and ordered Burke to forfeit his £800 deposit and pay £4,000 towards costs.
Burke, who sent out Lord Shanakill to win the Group One Prix Jean Prat earlier in the season, had his suspension confirmed last month after a long-running investigation.
He initially requested a stay on the ban pending his appeal, but that application was rejected by the BHA late last month.
Burke then transferred his Spigot Lodge string to the care of his father-in-law Alan Jarvis."

Why not Splashdown to success at Salisbury? (From The Northern Echo)
Why not Splashdown to success at Salisbury? (From The Northern Echo):
"Mark Johnston can continue his fine record at Hamilton by taking feature race, the EBF Captain J.C. Stewart Fillies’ Handicap, with Fesko.
The front-running filly has been in uninspiring form since her last success at Thirsk, but the handicapper has finally returned her to a realistic mark and she can take full advantage.
The timely return to action of Joe Fanning, who last joined up with the filly when making all at Thirsk in June off just a 1lb lower mark, is an added boost."
MJ just lost with an odds on fv, will Fesko make amends?

River can go swimmingly at Lingfield (From The Northern Echo): "Jeremy Glover’s confidence in Luscivious was vindicated after the sharp sprinter landed another nice prize at Southwell.
The five-year-old gelding has a fine record at the Nottinghamshire circuit – this was his third success at the course – and he again showed trademark early fizz to snare the southwellracecourse.co.uk Handicap.
Glover’s well-backed 7-4 favourite burst out of stall one under Graham Gibbons and had just enough in the tank to defeat Figaro Flyer by a short head.
‘‘Jeremy said this morning he would win and was proved right,’’ said joint-owner Paul Dixon.
‘‘He ran very well at Goodwood and he loves this track. He’s done it well"

Viking Spirit ready to win off new mark at Windsor (From The Northern Echo)
Viking Spirit ready to win off new mark at Windsor (From The Northern Echo):
"Thirsk also host some evening action and in-form handler Ruth Carr can bag another winner with Lucky Art in The Carpenters Arms Felixkirk Handicap.
The North Yorkshire trainer has been in flying form this term, with Lucky Art having appeared unfortunate not to win at Newcastle last time.
He could not get a run at a crucial point on that outing just five days ago, with his jockey failing to find space before challenging all too late.
Granted better luck here, Lucky Art can regain the winning thread."
Best bet material???? Hmm, we will see

Catterick calls off hours after Chepstow abandons - Horse Racing News | Racing Post
I think it was a disgrace that Ctterick continued to race as long as it did...according to the radio the jockeys were very concerned after the first race but were over ruled...a disgrace all round
Catterick calls off hours after Chepstow abandons - Horse Racing News | Racing Post: "A COUPLE of hours after the abandonment of rain-soaked Chepstow on Tuesday, racing at Catterick was also called off after five races due to safety concerns with the track.
Therewere two fallers during the card, with other horses reported to have slipped, and despite a wholesale jockeys' suggestion that they take a different line and switch to the stands' side in the home straight, conditions deteriorated further and it was finally agreed by officials, riders and trainers that it was too risky to carry on."

Good performance from northern trainers at Goodwood
Good performance from northern trainers (From The Northern Echo):
"LAST week was all about Glorious Goodwood and the northern trainers performed exceptionally well with four individual handlers getting on the scoresheet and one dominating the meeting.
Mark Johnston was leading trainer again over the five days with five winners. He has been top of the tree at the meeting seven times in the last 12 years. The Middleham handler kicked off the meeting in the best possible way with Drumfire who ran out an easy winner, and wins with Lowdown, Roman Republic, Laa Rayb and Eastern Aria giving the Kingsley House a week to remember.
Thirsk handler Dandy Nicholls also likes to target this meeting and after being touched off with Even And Odds, who ran a gallant race to finish second in the Stewards’ Cup, it looked like he was going to travel back empty handed. His luck turned, however, and he hit back to win the final two races with Bluie and Bencoolen. Bluie was successful in the six furlong nursery defying stablemate Layla’s Hero, in doing so Nicholls was winning the race for the third year in a row.
Rarely does a season go by without Bryan Smart landing a decent prize, and on Friday, Summer Fete swooped late to land the Group 3 Oak Tree Stakes under Richard Mullen and afterwards Mullen said: “The ground is key and it’s nice she has won a race like this as we’ve always thought a bit of her.”"

Bell set to have a ball (From The Northern Echo)
Bell set to have a ball (From The Northern Echo):
"MICHAEL Bell has enjoyed a stellar year thanks to the exploits of Sariska and can score with another decent filly in L’Enchanteresse at Chepstow. The Newmarket handler thinks a fair bit of this juvenile, who has already shown enough in two starts to date to suggest she is well up to winning a race of the nature of the Lindley Catering Median Auction Maiden Fillies’ Stakes.
Having finished third on her debut, form which was boosted the other day by Water Biscuit’s success at Goodwood, she was unfortunate to bump into a tartar on her next start.
Prominent throughout in a six-furlong maiden at York, she was no match for Rodrigo De Torres, who looks booked for Pattern races.
There was no disgrace in that and this drop down to five furlongs should not be an inconvenience as she is by Nunthorpe winner Kyllachy. Bell gave her an entry in the Cheveley Park Stakes and while that may be aiming a bit high, it goes to show the regard in which she is held."

Quirky Laa Rayb defies the draw to go the whole mile at Goodwood | Sport | The Guardian
Quirky Laa Rayb defies the draw to go the whole mile at Goodwood | Sport | The Guardian: "Jimmy Fortune and Laa Rayb score an easy victory in the totesport Mile at Goodwood.
The balance of power on the first three days at Glorious Goodwood was firmly with the punters, but the bookmakers recouped a fair part of their losses yesterday when Laa Rayb took the totesport Mile at 25-1.
Though he is trained by Mark Johnston, who has an outstanding record at the track, and won a Group Three last year, Laa Rayb has often looked an unwilling competitor. Above all, he had a single-figure draw in stall eight yesterday, in a race where a high number is generally essential.
He clearly takes no interest in statistics, though, and was clear entering the final furlong on the way to a two-and-a-quarter length defeat of Spectait.
'You can't give up on a horse with this much class,' Johnston said. 'He's got a lot of miles on the clock, he's got a few quirks and he's probably benefited from a bit of a gap between races as well. Perhaps he hasn't looked in love with the game at times, but you have to keep running and trying to find the key"

Rip Van's the man at Glorious Goodwood (From The Northern Echo)
Rip won very tidily I think...
Rip Van's the man at Glorious Goodwood (From The Northern Echo): "RIP Van Winkle tore the BGC Sussex Stakes field at Glorious Goodwood to pieces and earned an elusive Group One success after a series of nearmisses against dual Classic winner Sea The Stars.
A catalogue of problems have beset Aidan O’Brien’s colt throughout the summer, and he provided all concerned with an 11th-hour injury scare on Tuesday evening when a crack appeared on his nearhind hoof.
Fourth to Sea The Stars in both the 2000 Guineas and Derby before finishing second to him in the Eclipse, his participation went right down to the wire, with O’Brien even accompanying the son of Galileo down to the start to monitor his condition.
But with no apparent signs of lameness, the 6-4 favourite broke tidily from the stalls under Johnny Murtagh and stole the show on day two of the meeting.
Murtagh sent Rip Van Winkle on his way turning for home at halfway in mile showpiece, and the market leader bounded clear to get off the mark for 2009 by two and a half lengths.
A foot infection in the spring has hindered the winner ever since, with O’Brien claiming it ‘‘very unusual’’ for his charge to have raced on this year after that setback.
O’Brien, winning the race for the fourth time and following up from Henrythenavigator 12 months ago, said: ‘‘We are over the moon with what has happened and we’re so pleased that he has shown everybody what he shows us everyday, and having had to overcome everything yesterday evening."

Middleham trainer Burke says race ban is "unfair and excessive" (From The Northern Echo)
Middleham trainer Burke says race ban is "unfair and excessive" (From The Northern Echo):
"A RACEHORSE trainer has branded a 12-month ban for providing insider information as 'unfair and excessive'.
Middleham-based Karl Burke says he will appeal the punishment handed out by the British Horseracing Authority (BHA). The ban was imposed after the trainer admitted supplying inside information on races to former owner Miles Rodgers. He also admitted associating with Rodgers, who at the time was disqualified from involvement in racing. However, a statement issued by his solicitors said that the breaches occurred in 'unusual circumstances'. It explained that Rodgers was an owner of horses and co-investor in land at Mr Burke's yard at Spigot Lodge, near Middleham, at the time.
The statement said: 'This business relationship was on-going at the time Mr Rodgers was warned off and continued for a short period thereafter.
'During this period of contact Mr Burke also had some associations with Mr Rodgers connected with horse racing including the imparting of opinion on the running of six horses and the sale of the horse Khanjar.' According to his solicitors, Burke received no payment from Rodgers for providing his opinion on the races. he statement said that he spoke to Rodgers about the races in order to prevent any difficulty in the replacement of Rodgers as an investor at Spigot Lodge.
'Mr Burke was misguided in associating with Mr Rodgers in this way and has admitted these failings,' the solicitors said. 'He does not dispute being liable for a penalty for these breaches but the penalty imposed by the BHA is unfair and excessive.'

Juicy lay and back tip for email subscribers yesterday, I wrote:
"Three best bets today, tough to find value bets this afternoon with non-runners and odds on shots galore but I hope to have found 3 good ones. In the 3.15 Leic I am going for one of my favourite combos laying Sweet Gale and backing My Gacho 6/1 each way. Urban Poet and Crimewriter are both win bets although a saver on Johnstons other runner Clientele 8/1 4 Ham may be prudent.
Result! Sweet Gale unplaced, My Gacho won 7/1 as proofed

Tudor Key makes all-weather bow at Lingfield (From The Northern Echo):
"Sir Mark Prescott traditionally starts rolling into form as the summer progresses and his Casual Garcia catches the eye in the Weatherby's Bloodstock Insurance Handicap. On brief inspection of his first run of the season, the portents are not great as he finished tailed off behind the useful Judgethemoment in a handicap at Ascot in May.
But his debuts as a two- and three-year-old were similarly abject, and last term he ended up rattling off three wins. The two-mile distance appears to be no stumbling block and, as many hardened punters will know, horses must be forgiven the occasional bad run. The market closer to the time will provide the greatest insight into Casual Garcia’s claims, but the fact the baronet is persevering with him suggests there is more to come."

Bargain buy Sirvino proves worth at York (From The Northern Echo)
Bargain buy Sirvino proves worth at York (From The Northern Echo):
"SIRVINO completed his rags-to-riches story by taking his unbeaten record this season to five in the 50th John Smith’s Cup at York.
Thirsk trainer David Barron paid just £3,000 for the horse as a yearling at Newmarket and the gelding has now won £120,000 in prizemoney for property developers Theo Williams and Charles Mocatta.
Giving 3lb claimer Neil Brown his biggest success, the 16-1 shot foiled the gallant attempt by Ryan Moore on The Queen’s runner Kingdom Of Fife to make all the running in this valuable heritage handicap.
Joining the leader two furlongs out, Sirvino forged clear to win by two and three-quarter lengths. Albaqaa finished strongly for third, two and a half lengths away, with Seeking The Buck fourth.
‘‘I thought he was a nice horse but I never thought we would be here today at the start of the season,’’ said Barron. ‘‘He is a nice horse and has a good attitude. I’m getting older now and I like these types ‘‘You are dreaming all the time but when you get slot 16 you think, ‘oh dear here we go’, but Neil’s a good lad. ‘‘I left it entirely to him and not to push forward too soon and to get to rail as soon as you can after the bend. ‘‘I’ve never won this race before and have only had a couple of runners.’’ Hawick-born Brown, 23, said: ‘‘With every run he’s got better and better – he’s so straightforward. ‘‘I was a further back than I would have liked but I managed to get a run up the rails.
‘‘I thought he (runner-up Kingdom Of Fife) might get going again, but my lad kept battling.’’ Moore also had to settle for second place with similar tactics on Warringah in the John Smith’s Extra Smooth Silver Cup Stakes.
It was a close call, with Hits Only Vic (16-1) getting up by a short head and Magicalmysterytour another nose away in third.
Declan Carroll, celebrating his first Listed triumph, will consider bringing the fiveyear- old back to York for the Ebor.

There was a stewards' inquiry, but the placings remained unaltered. The Exacta paid a poor dividend of £72.30; compared to the CSF at £160.63 so maybe a fair few were on.

National Trainers' Foundation chief Rupert Arnold calls for drugs debate | Sport | The Guardian
National Trainers' Foundation chief Rupert Arnold calls for drugs debate | Sport | The Guardian: "Rupert Arnold, the chief executive of the National Trainers' Federation, said yesterday that he has 'no personal knowledge at all' of how widely tranexamic acid (TA), the anti-bleeding agent at the centre of the Nicky Henderson doping case, is used in British stables.
Arnold also renewed a recent call by the NTF for 'a wider debate about the nature of prohibited drugs ... because there are treatments that are designed to make horses' lives more comfortable and assist with the rigours of training that do not in themselves enhance performance.'
Henderson was banned from running horses for three months, and fined £40,000, by the British Horseracing Authority's disciplinary panel after he was found to have given TA to a mare owned by the Queen before a race in February.
The NTF issued a statement shortly afterwards which expressed 'sympathy' for Henderson, described his punishment as 'severe', and added that 'this [medication] is becoming a difficult area for trainers to manage'. This prompted speculation that the Federation might be aware of other trainers using the same, or similar, substances on a regular basis."

Racing abandoned as Worcester runs dry - Horse Racing News | Racing Post
Racing abandoned as Worcester runs dry - Horse Racing News | Racing Post:
"RACING was abandoned in controversial circumstances after just one race at Worcester on Wednesday, with the hot weather taking its toll as the track ran short of water for the horses.
After the first, Highland Laddie collapsed due to heat exhaustion and required '600 to 800 gallons of water [2,700 to 3,600 litres]' to revive him, diminishing the supplies on course.
After a lengthy delay and an inquiry during which they consulted jockeys and trainers, the stewards elected to call off the meeting on 'wholly equine grounds'. Explaining the reason for the abandonment, stipendary steward Richard Westdrop said: 'Due to the excessive heat and the fact it was 85 degrees (29.4C) in the racecourse stables, the horses were arriving on the track already dehydrated before they had run in the race.
'The decision to abandon was a wholly equine welfare condition. We took expert advice from our vet Jilly Hancock and Mr Andrew Harrison, a senior veterinary official on the course.'
Before the decision was taken to abandon, clerk of the course Fergus Cameron had tried to access a fire hydrant in the centre of the course to reach more urgently needed water, and raceourse staff with hosepipes were seen filling up water containers.
It was an ironic twist for the course, which has suffered from flooding over the last two summers and was unable to race."

Northumbrland Plate (From The Northern Echo):
"THE Northumberland Plate took place in front of a packed crowd at Newcastle on Saturday, and produced a 16-1 winner in Som Tala.
The nine-year-old trained by Mick Channon made all the running to win Europe’s richest stayers’ handicap under jockey Tony Culhane, who was winning the race for the first time.
Later in the day Culhane and Channon teamed up again by landing the maiden stakes with The Human League at odds of 9-4."
