Dope testing: looks as if the testing for drugged horses has been stepped up for this years Breeders Cup. Breeders Cup entrants face testing: "Breeders' Cup series entrants will be tested randomly for blood-doping agents 10 days before the races, the California Horse Racing Board said.
Officials are looking for epoetin, darbepoetin and other blood-doping agents that are administered days or weeks before the competition, the board said. The drugs usually aren't detected in samples collected after races"
Perhaps the most important change are the new rules which state that trainers of horses that test positive for anabolic steroids at the Breeders' Cup will face a one-year suspension from the event, and three-time violators will be banned for life.
An announcment about the furutre of the Breeders Cup is expected later today. There has been much speculation as to where the race wil be held in the future with Churchill Downs the most likely venue for the 2010 Breeders’ Cup.
The 2008 and 2009 races will be held at Santa Anita Park in Arcadia, California. This year’s races are on Oct. 24 and 25.
The official Breeders Cup site is well worth a visit for all the statistics, news and updates.
