Trainer Burke has ban appeal dismissed (From The Northern Echo)

Trainer Burke has ban appeal dismissed (From The Northern Echo): "NORTH Yorkshire racehorse trainer Karl Burke has had his appeal against a one-year ban dismissed by the British Horseracing Authority.

Burke, based at Middleham, was warned off after admitting passing information for reward at a hearing last month, but had hoped to get his punishment reduced.

However, the BHA's appeal board, chaired by Sir William Gage, rejected his appeal on Monday and ordered Burke to forfeit his £800 deposit and pay £4,000 towards costs.

Burke, who sent out Lord Shanakill to win the Group One Prix Jean Prat earlier in the season, had his suspension confirmed last month after a long-running investigation.

He initially requested a stay on the ban pending his appeal, but that application was rejected by the BHA late last month.

Burke then transferred his Spigot Lodge string to the care of his father-in-law Alan Jarvis."

Why not Splashdown to success at Salisbury? (From The Northern Echo)

Why not Splashdown to success at Salisbury? (From The Northern Echo):

"Mark Johnston can continue his fine record at Hamilton by taking feature race, the EBF Captain J.C. Stewart Fillies’ Handicap, with Fesko.

The front-running filly has been in uninspiring form since her last success at Thirsk, but the handicapper has finally returned her to a realistic mark and she can take full advantage.

The timely return to action of Joe Fanning, who last joined up with the filly when making all at Thirsk in June off just a 1lb lower mark, is an added boost."

MJ just lost with an odds on fv, will Fesko make amends?

River can go swimmingly at Lingfield (From The Northern Echo)

River can go swimmingly at Lingfield (From The Northern Echo): "Jeremy Glover’s confidence in Luscivious was vindicated after the sharp sprinter landed another nice prize at Southwell.

The five-year-old gelding has a fine record at the Nottinghamshire circuit – this was his third success at the course – and he again showed trademark early fizz to snare the southwellracecourse.co.uk Handicap.

Glover’s well-backed 7-4 favourite burst out of stall one under Graham Gibbons and had just enough in the tank to defeat Figaro Flyer by a short head.

‘‘Jeremy said this morning he would win and was proved right,’’ said joint-owner Paul Dixon.
‘‘He ran very well at Goodwood and he loves this track. He’s done it well"

Viking Spirit ready to win off new mark at Windsor (From The Northern Echo)

Viking Spirit ready to win off new mark at Windsor (From The Northern Echo):

"Thirsk also host some evening action and in-form handler Ruth Carr can bag another winner with Lucky Art in The Carpenters Arms Felixkirk Handicap.

The North Yorkshire trainer has been in flying form this term, with Lucky Art having appeared unfortunate not to win at Newcastle last time.

He could not get a run at a crucial point on that outing just five days ago, with his jockey failing to find space before challenging all too late.

Granted better luck here, Lucky Art can regain the winning thread."

Best bet material???? Hmm, we will see

Catterick calls off hours after Chepstow abandons - Horse Racing News | Racing Post

I think it was a disgrace that Ctterick continued to race as long as it did...according to the radio the jockeys were very concerned after the first race but were over ruled...a disgrace all round

Catterick calls off hours after Chepstow abandons - Horse Racing News | Racing Post: "A COUPLE of hours after the abandonment of rain-soaked Chepstow on Tuesday, racing at Catterick was also called off after five races due to safety concerns with the track.

Therewere two fallers during the card, with other horses reported to have slipped, and despite a wholesale jockeys' suggestion that they take a different line and switch to the stands' side in the home straight, conditions deteriorated further and it was finally agreed by officials, riders and trainers that it was too risky to carry on."

Good performance from northern trainers at Goodwood

Good performance from northern trainers (From The Northern Echo):

"LAST week was all about Glorious Goodwood and the northern trainers performed exceptionally well with four individual handlers getting on the scoresheet and one dominating the meeting.

Mark Johnston was leading trainer again over the five days with five winners. He has been top of the tree at the meeting seven times in the last 12 years. The Middleham handler kicked off the meeting in the best possible way with Drumfire who ran out an easy winner, and wins with Lowdown, Roman Republic, Laa Rayb and Eastern Aria giving the Kingsley House a week to remember.

Thirsk handler Dandy Nicholls also likes to target this meeting and after being touched off with Even And Odds, who ran a gallant race to finish second in the Stewards’ Cup, it looked like he was going to travel back empty handed. His luck turned, however, and he hit back to win the final two races with Bluie and Bencoolen. Bluie was successful in the six furlong nursery defying stablemate Layla’s Hero, in doing so Nicholls was winning the race for the third year in a row.

Rarely does a season go by without Bryan Smart landing a decent prize, and on Friday, Summer Fete swooped late to land the Group 3 Oak Tree Stakes under Richard Mullen and afterwards Mullen said: “The ground is key and it’s nice she has won a race like this as we’ve always thought a bit of her.”"

Bell set to have a ball (From The Northern Echo)

Bell set to have a ball (From The Northern Echo):

"MICHAEL Bell has enjoyed a stellar year thanks to the exploits of Sariska and can score with another decent filly in L’Enchanteresse at Chepstow. The Newmarket handler thinks a fair bit of this juvenile, who has already shown enough in two starts to date to suggest she is well up to winning a race of the nature of the Lindley Catering Median Auction Maiden Fillies’ Stakes.

Having finished third on her debut, form which was boosted the other day by Water Biscuit’s success at Goodwood, she was unfortunate to bump into a tartar on her next start.
Prominent throughout in a six-furlong maiden at York, she was no match for Rodrigo De Torres, who looks booked for Pattern races.

There was no disgrace in that and this drop down to five furlongs should not be an inconvenience as she is by Nunthorpe winner Kyllachy. Bell gave her an entry in the Cheveley Park Stakes and while that may be aiming a bit high, it goes to show the regard in which she is held."
