Nightmare day at the races
Only one winner! Well I suppose it was not a complete blank, could have been worse but not much, so I hope that is April's black day out of the way. Such days are par for the course though as any pro punter will tell you, any system will have a losing run and you must be prepared for that both mentally and in your bank and staking plan - above all do not go on tilt and chase your losses until you go broke. I could say no comment about the first lay/back combi as the winner should have lost given such an awful race with mistakes all over at least my ew pick placed to preserve the bank.

Did you see the first race? According to the Racing Post it was "An eventful race in which only four of the runners managed to complete." So scraping a third is not too bad given that info!

Not the best of days but far from the worst either especially if you like laying horses to lose, my email advised: "Brompton Brow 40/1 came in third so the place bet was great value. I am going to stick with Easterby again today in the 2.20 Wolves where the fav is again too short for me so Western Art at 9/2 is just about an each way bet to nothing. In the next I am also going to oppose the fav, Imprimis Tagula 11/4 with another Easterby runner, Danish Art 6/1. That could be a very nice little ew double.
So just the first best bet is a plain win fancy today. I also like the ratings for the two Johnston runners, - Duke Of Normandy 17:10 Wolverhampton & Hatta Diamond WON 17:40 Wolverhampton"

Fallon Back In Newmarket To Ride Out For Stoute, Racing News, Racing Post:
"KIEREN FALLON was back riding out for Sir Michael Stoute for the first time this spring when the Freemason Lodge team cantered on Warren Hill on Wednesday morning.
Fallon returned from a winter stay in Santa Anita at the weekend and took the leg up on the Highclere Thoroughbred Racing-owned Harbinger in a canter and then swapped over to ride the Danehill Dancer colt Imposing in another gentle spin.
Fallon had been in familiar mode earlier in the morning when he rode fast work on the Paul Howling-trained Twist Again in a spin on the Al Bahathri polytrack and had ridden work at the weekend for Gerard Butler.
Fallon said: 'I am back riding work but I will only be riding on work mornings for Sir Michael.
'It won't be long before I'm 100 per cent fit and I have been riding work all winter. I have played a lot of squash and have been running and going out on a bike and I am as fit as I could be.'"
Todays jackpot is at Chepstow and email should go out soon

Wolverhampton abandonment anger
Home: "MICK CHANNON voiced his outrage on Monday over the way Wolverhampton handled its abandonment after his intended runner Forty Thirty made a 214-mile round trip for nothing.
Forty Thirty, who was due to run in the 2.50, arrived at the course after travelling from the trainer's West Ilsley base only moments before officials finally called the meeting off.
Many trainers had also set out for Wolverhampton ascourse officials gave the meeting the go ahead despite persistent snow, and Channon blasted the racecourse for raising false hopes.
He said: 'It's been handled disgracefully by both the racecourse and the BHA. Who do they think are paying for the wasted transport costs in the midst of this recession? They should have more respect for the owners that have to foot the bills.'
Channon added: 'They had two inspections and could have called it off this morning. They should have let common sense prevail. We got all the way up there and I feel someone should have made a decision earlier. It happens on a regular basis.'"
It was indeed truly farcical and blatently obvious to anyone with half a brain that given the driving conditions across the country and the fact that over half the runners would have had to travel over a hundred miles that the risk to stable staff and the horses was huge so if a third of the declared runners had truned up I would have been very surprised.

Thursday Course Inspections
RacingPost: "WINCANTON and Towcester are optimistic about their chances of racing on Thursday despite both tracks calling inspections for the morning.
TheWest Country venue, which is to inspect at 7.30am, is set to stage a hurdle and bumper card after officials decided to call off the scheduled chases earlier in the week due to the wet spell of weather...
Officials at Towcester are also "hopeful" their meeting will beat the wet spell - despite having called an 8am inspection.
The course has been hit by a large volume of rain in recent days, but the forecast is for a dry spell before racing."

All seems well with the RacingPost after last night maintenance down time but it cannot be long until they start charging for the members club.

There was not time before the weekend for the firm to seek a meeting with racing's regulators, but the matter will be discussed tomrrow.
BHA communications manager Will Lambe said: 'The most important thing now is the licence application. We had contact with Deloitte last week.'
Leighs high on agenda
An application for Great Leighs to resume racing has yet to be received by the BHA, but communications manager Will Lambe says it will be discussed.
He said: 'There is a scheduled meeting of the BHA board tomorrow. An update will be provided by John Bridgeman (independent regulatory director) and Nic Coward (chief executive).
'They are board members so they will provide updates.'"

Events conspired to bugger up my proofing yet again as all races at Lingfield went off an hour late due to fog. I had proofed my first tip of the day in the first race at Lingfield
but this actually went off after the first at Newbury but I was unable to delete my tip as the login had expired so the proofed results show an early loser which was not the case. GGGRRRR!
