A days racing full of seconditus at Chepstow until the 4.15 where the stats pick, Addiena won at 12/1 but the frusrating news is that for some stupid reason I proofed Ainia the 5/2 favourite instead of my selection so word to myself "must concentrate, must concentrate, must concentrate"

A great start on Sunday's jackpot tips with the first and second in the very first race followed by both win shorties coming in and a later winner at 15/2!

Off to hospital early Monday for a follow up appointment with the orthodontist to see how t'other half is getting on with the made to measure mouth guard (mandibular advancement splint).. the good news is that it works really well except when it ends up on the floor, the bads news is that we have to leave North Yorkshire very early to get to the hospital so I probably will not have time to update my main site and definitly will not be able to proof any tips as stop at a winner system...if I mange to get time to make my selections that is...

2.30 Not a great race to bet in with 2 short co-favs, Sirenuse for local in form trainer Smart and southern raider Bahamian Babe. The first named has the best draw.

3.05 Osteopathic Remedy 5/1 & Hula Ballew 6/1 for Dods 15-84 18% strike rate and +£31.00 level stakes profit.
Hula has C&D four wins and four places from 12 starts and N Brown in the saddle makes her my first choice with maybe a saver on Osteopath

A huge pool to be won today but with some big fields at Goodwood and Newmarket it may be harder than suggested by "Paul Petrie, Totepool spokesman, said: "The Stewards' Cup could prove the crucial race in this weekend's Scoop6, and if a fancied runner wins it then we think there's a fair chance the bet will be won."


The last race of the Scoop Six is the Stewards' Cup. Prime Defender is the Racing Post forecast fav at 8/1, only one fav has won in the past 10 years and with 28 runners I am not so sure that it will be won but will certainly be trying!

After a series of rollovers, the win fund starts with £428,259 brought forward, & the bonus fund - which cannot be won on tomorrow - kicks off at £161,238

Despite my wariness when it comes to finding winners at big meetings Goodwood went well with three winners from the first six races at 5/1, 5/1 & 1/2. . . so today just have to double that tally to scoop the jackpot rollover with £35,620.77 carried forward to Goodwood. Yesterday's placepot paid £1,202.80 so well worth having a go!

Ah, another evening jackpot race card this time at Thirsk, great for the bookies especially for fleecing those punters who feel thay have to bet on every race. I heard an interesting snippet of information on William Hill radio today, it seems Barron's yard has been surrounded by crops rapeseed and he attributes his recent poor performance to the horses having a reaction to this infernal crop, now been harvested and so is expecting a big improvement from now on.

Finding winners

seems far harder than it should for June, can we blame global warming and strange weather? Or is it just one of those things, all systems etc inevitably have losing days? Or are my favourite trainers out of form? The latter certainly is true of Mark Johnston this month, he had no winners at Ascot where he usually has a 14%ish strike rate, his overall statistics for June read 8-115 7% -40.00 compared to 13% June 07. On his forum Mark Johnston Racing he states:

"Poor performance syndrome is how I used to describe it. Not sure what starts it but, when you don't win when expected, all the form lines are broken and it is hard to place the horses properly. Especially true with the 2yo's at present."

To soon to lose the faith, in 2007 Johnston had a poor July, 6% strike rate, followed by a stonking August, 20% +£48.69! So wath Johnstons runners for a return to form as a purple patch should be just around the corner

Master of Art won, What a great ride by Darryl to win on Master of Art, he met all sorts of trouble in running but waited for the gap that came eventually and took up the running to win nicely for us in a dramtic finish.

Looking forward to another great day of racing at Ascot. Suppose my question is will Mark Johnston get a winner today? He has a blank score sheet so far this year but usually does well at Ascot.

ATR report "Johnston believes he has a strong hand with Captain Webb and Age Of Reason as he attempts to improve an already impressive record in the Queen's Vase at Royal Ascot on Friday.

The Middleham trainer has won the two-mile heat four times since the turn of the century with And Beyond (2001), Shanty Star (2003), Melrose Avenue (2005) and Soapy Danger (2006).. . .

"AGE OF REASON was returning from a four-month break when finishing third to Unnefer over 1m2f at Newmarket recently - an encouraging effort, especially as it was his first run on turf. He's essentially a 1m4f horse, but we've won this race before with similar types. A bit like Soapy Danger, he could well come back in trip after this as he's not an out-and-out stayer but his class makes him a serious contender.
"CAPTAIN WEBB won the Glasgow Stakes like a horse who's going to relish stepping up from 1m3f and his performance that day convinces me that his Sandown defeat three weeks earlier was a blip. I've no idea what went wrong there, but he's unbeaten in his other four starts and is very progressive.

First day of Ascot and the press are talking up the Stoute/ Moore combination but as ever I will be having a close look at Mark Johnston's runners.

Oh well, a severe dose of seconditus yesterday so no joy with the huge jackpot rollover. . .so back to the drawing board today when my free racing tips will again focus on the jackpot card which is at Haydock so a fair few northern trainers in contention there.

Why always the jackpot card? In theory it should have the best class racing of the day - I may have to revise this soon!

Nottingham Races Jackpot Rollover Tips

The Tote Jackpot rolls over to Nottingham today with £617,237.50 carried forward so the pool likely to top £1m. No small fields, in fact the smallest has 10 runners so the big syndicates are unlikely to cover the fields as to do so would cost more than the pool is worth.

The races start early today with the first at Nottingham at 1.40pm so todays free tips will be online for then and the email sent earlier.

Tuesday racing tips Chester Jackpot

Another evening meeting for the jackpot which is a mega rollover with £311,875.69 carried forward to Chester Races so todays free racing tips will concentrate on that card but will also have a look at Redacr this afternoon for possible shorties to secure an early profit.

ATR report that "Big Brown failed in his bid to become the first horse since Affirmed in 1978 to claim the American Triple Crown when he was reduced to a virtual walk in the Belmont Stakes in New York...Veterinarian Dr Larry Bramlage said: "Of course the first thing you expect is that something is wrong but the veterinarian inspection team didn't find anything wrong with him. His feet looked OK and he was not lame when he stopped here in front of the stands.

"They will go over him and look to see if there is a physical problem, some reason why he didn't feel like running. He is a very intelligent horse and he may know of something but we couldn't see anything outwardly."

"Horses will always confuse us - but Twiglet last night at Wolverhampton was beyond comprehension. She failed to raise a gallop from halfway in her 7 furlong contest and finished tailed off. She basically did not try a yard and her next date will be in a Seller with some headgear.

Deeply disappointing - as it is incredibly frustrating when horses pay the team back for the months of hard work and care in this way. And miserable for my Sister and Owner of the horse, Muffy Baker, who deserves better. Twiglet did not even have a blow afterwards - she basically did sweet FA and I was pretty grumpy with her just now at feeding time.....

Baizically has been another "project horse" for Pat and...."

Monday horse racing tips Bath Jackpot card

As the Tote Jackpot meeting is Bath today that is where my main tips are for. The daily email has been sent and the free racing tips will be published before the first race.

A couple of stats re todays racing:

Sir M Prescott he does exceptionally well with his runners at Musselburgh (43% strike-rate) and his Aleatricis is entitled to plenty of respect on his handicap debut.

Hugh Taylor writes for ATR on the draw bias at BATH
Since 2005 in sprint handicaps with 12 or more runners, stalls 1-3 are 0-71 (six of those started favourite at 3-1 or shorter and all six were unplaced). Since 2000 in sprint handicaps with 16 or more runners, stalls 1-4 are 1-121.

On June 7, 2008 this years Belmont horses include the Kentucky Derby winner Big Brown is seroius odds-on (2/5 today) with British bookmakers to complete the elusive American Triple Crown on June 7 after another awesome display in the Preakness Stakes. If Big Brown does win and thuscompletes the Triple Crown he would be the first since Affirmed did the triple in 1978.

The Racing Post reports that "THREE CHIMNEYS FARM of Kentucky has signed an agreement to stand the unbeaten Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes winner Big Brown next year.

According to published reports, the contract gives Three Chimneys a minority interest in the colt's stud rights only, while his racing career will remain in the hands of International Equine Acquisitions Holdings and Paul Pompa jnr. . . Bred by Dr Gary Knapp's Monticule farm from the Nureyev mare Mien, Big Brown will now head for the Belmont Stakes. The questions of long his racing career will last after that, and what stud fee he will command, are the next questions to set the rumour mill grinding."

Next in the betting the main rival to Big Brown in The Belmont could be the Japanese Casino Drive, sent off 7-5 favourite, is a half-brother to the two most recent Belmont Stakes winners Jazil and Rags To Riches. He made his one and only previous start on February 23 at Kyoto, winning by more than 11 lengths. He covered the 1m1f in 1m47.87secs.
