Friday Racing Tips

Today's free racing tips will focus on the Sandown Jackpot card and will be available before the first race at 1.15

Finding winners has been tough this week,it has been tempting to look to Ireland but I usually prefer to stick with UK racing.

One meeting I will be watching with interest is the Kentucky Derby with regards especially to the Godolphin runers as this is one trophy they really want to win.

The Independent reports:

""We don't even know if we have got a Kentucky Derby contender until Saturday," Simon Crisford, the Godolphin racing manager, admitted yesterday. "If we've got a genuine contender we will see it then.

"Essence Of Dubai would be top of the pecking order. He is a pretty straightforward type of colt who won a Group Two [the Norfolk Stakes at Santa Anita] in California last year. He beat Firebreak in the UAE Guineas and it was a hard-fought, inconclusive victory, but then he's not the type of horse to win races by a wide margin. He's progressed since. Hopefully stepping him up to a mile and a quarter will work in his favour.

"This is a colt by Pulpit and he's going to stay. If you look at all the Kentucky Derby trials it seems to be all speed, but ultimately staying is going to be the name of the game. Our horses have had a pretty active winter. We've been on the go since the middle of January with a lot of them. A horse like Essence Of Dubai is hardened."

Bank boosting winning exacta tip

Yesterday I was concerned that the Sedgefield card looks as difficult as usual so lets hope I have chosen wisely. Only a couple of winners but the exacta tip came up with the goodies:

Warmed up nicely for picking the one two in the Grand National today by tipping up the exacta in the John Smith's Topham Chase yesterday with 2 of my 4 selections coming 1st and second.

Billy Cray, Paul Nolan and Ross Atkinson were banned for a total of 34 days for allowing Bruning's mount Sol Rojo to gallop a full 30 lengths clear off the home turn without attempting to respond.

Dutch-born Bruning, 23, having just her tenth ride, came home in splendid isolation to spark an immediate stewards' enquiry amid the embarrassment of trial by TV for the red-faced trio."

Thought at first that today was going to be a disaster at the betting office with the first 3 short priced favourites being turned over but a good priced tip on the all weather came to the rescue with Northern Desert winning at 6/1 in the second rae at Wolverhampton.

Surely must be at least a couple more winning tips today??

Todays star bet had to be the Exacta in the 5.30 Ludlow where I fancied Hawkes Triple Bluff each way at 25/1 this morning. I added the favourite and Sandymac for the combination exacta and was well rewarded with the exacta paying not much short of double the combination forecast.

Thursday's horse racing tips

Wednesday's jackpot tips gave us a winner in the first albeit at a short 10/11 but a profit is a profit, that is the great thing about dutching. The tips gave another three winners at 11/4, 7/2 and 15/8 so a pretty good day at the races.

Horse Racing Tips Tuesday

The Jackpot card is at Catterick races today so my main racing tips will be from that beautiful North Yorkshire race course.

At first I thought yesterdays horse racing betting was going to be a disaster getting off to a bad start with both fancied short priced tips were turned over. The jackpot card came up with a winner in the 4th leg at a very nice price of 7/1 but the placepot tips performed much better with winners in the first race at 13/8 followed by 3 more winning tips at 7/2, 6/4 & 11/4 - a good day at the office after all.

Big-staking syndicate wins big Scoop6

Racing Post reports that:

"A BIG-staking syndicate edged out a minimum-stakes punter to emerge as the sole winner of Saturday's Totesport Scoop6.

Only two tickets remained heading into the final leg of Saturday's bet, with the syndicate from the south of England siding with favourite Binocular, although the £2 player got a run for their money when their selection Pierrot Lunaire got within a length and a quarter of the Adonis Juvenile Hurdle winner.

That result means the winners are £375,183 better off and will have the chance to play for a further £160,792 next week, while the ticket-holder who watched their selection finish second is one of 60 who collected the £1,843.70 place dividend."

Jeez, I would be gutted to have been that individual with just a 2 quid entry, especially to be beaten by an alredy wealthy syndicate...just have to keep trying or start a scoop6 syndicate of your own.

Curious and curiouser...The Bedale millionaire punter yet to collect his winnings:

Despite visiting one William Hill betting shop where it was confirmed that his 50p bet had won him a world record £1million profit, a Yorkshireman has yet to contact the shop in Thirsk where he placed his wager on Friday to arrange for payment.

"We have been maintaining a vain vigil for the mystery punter," said Hill's spokesman Graham Sharpe. "While we are quite happy to earn a day or two's interest on the massive winning wager we are baffled as to why the winner - a man in his late fifties or early sixties, we believe, has not contacted us as yet to arrange for payment of his recoird £1million winnings."

The man placed his 50p bet on eight horses running on Friday - the first named Isn't That Lucky and the last, A Dream Come True. All eight won, overcoming odds of 2,000,000/1 and making him Britain's first betting shop millionaire.

However, the man's luck seems to have run out - he staked £2.50 on Saturday, and lost the lot. "At that rate in 400,000 days' time we should have won the million back," commented Sharpe.

How to turn 50p into a million

Sporting Life report that a local - to me - thirsk punter won a £1million for just 50p! if only i had put my 7 winners on Thursday into amulti bet like that!

William Hill punter was believed to have become Britain's first betting-shop millionaire on Friday night after an eight-horse accumulator landed odds of more than £2,000,000-1.

His 50p stake won him a cool £1million - which is Hills' limit on horseracing.

Hills say the customer is a regular in a Thirsk-based branch and places these type of bets almost daily - although he has never previously come close to winning on a major scale.

"Even a scriptwriter couldn't have dreamt this one up," said spokesman David Hood.

"His first winner was called Isn't That Lucky in the 2.55pm at Sandown on Friday afternoon and his last winner was A Dream Come True in the 9.20pm at Wolverhampton.

"It is a staggering bet and earns him a place in history as the world's first betting-shop millionaire."

Todays early email alert has been sent for the Ayr Jackpot Race Meeting.

Sorry about the days off, some strong antibiotics have started to clear up my sinusitis and aches, pains and temperature are subsiding so back to the hot keyboard today.

I fancy the first shorty ...... to win but instead of ....Ayr I reckon last years winners .... could take this again this year.

A couple of odds on shots in my selections today which cannot be omitted for jackpot purposes but will not be value single bet propositions unless you are a high roller and can risk 5K to win 1K..

Tuesday horse racing tips

The Racing Post reports that there are late inspections at both jumps meetings today:

"Sedgefield inspect at 11am with clerk of the course Charlie Moore saying: "You couldn't abandon racing today and the chairman of the stewards is absolutely adamant about that, so we're going to roll forward to the morning. We are trying to race, and by the time the temperature drops tonight, the whole course will be under cover."

Taunton's chances appear reasonably bright, with clerk of the course Michael Trickey cautiously optimistic ahead of a 10.30am inspection.

He said: "We had a minimum of -5C on Sunday but we were raceable by 1pm."

Both are under great pressure to try to ensure racing goes ahead but the lateness of the inspections makes me very wary of betting at those meetings.

Plus, I am only about 40 mins from Sedgefield and it is a winter wonderland here - the fields were frozen solid on Sunday and have not thawed in between at all..

Add in the poor card at Southwell - only one race with 8 runners and that is a claimer - and my still being full of flu - it all adds up to a "no bets" day...

Will not be online early as there is to be a second inspection...The first precautionary INSPECTION 7.30am Friday due to frost/freezing fog) presumably found the race track still frozen.

The forecast is for cold at first with possible ground frost turning dry but rather misty for a time; long sunny spells developing with light north-easterly winds.

Even though further north Musselburgh racing goes ahead after passing an early inspection.

How to make a profit dutching bet stakes

I have now added a dutching calculator to my main racing tips site as i use one when working out how to split my stake when I tip two or more horses in the same race

Dutching is a method used to back more than one horse in a race and works by putting the correct stake on each horse so that no matter which horse wins the same amount of profit is returned.

Dutching is a really powerful staking tool and was allegedly, created during the Prohibition Era by Al Capone's accountant, "Dutchy" Schultz. The amount he bet on each horse was carefully calculated so that the same amount of profit was madeif any of the horses he backed won the race.

In my tip alert email I advised to lay the second shortie, Honour´s Dream, which was unplaced "led until ridden and headed before 2 out, lost place quickly, eased" and to have a small each way bet on Loulou Nivernais... "took keen hold, prominent, 2nd at 7th until ridden and weakened quickly before 2 out".. maybe today will be the day for a double for Loulou's trainer?

No official bets today as I have to leave soon to attend a small ceremony for the interment of mum's ashes and to sort out her house.

Sorry about yesterday, did manage to get out on New Years eve for a while but reckon everything caught up with me as I did not wake until 3.30pm! Totally unheard of for me...

Saturday Winning Horse Racing Tips

Only 12.40 and jobs done already, ok the first winner was a short price at the off but if you got on at 11/10 as I did there was a tidy profit to be made. Also have had the first and second come in in the first leg of the jackpot card at Newbury so everything crossed for the next five races, lol...

Boxing Day Racing Winners, Welsh National

Too much racing yesterday! Glad I concentrated on the Jackpot meeting at Kempton and the Scoop6 which included 2 races at Wetherby...close but no jackpot payout but had four winners at Kempton and another at Wetherby which would have made a tasty multiple bet if I had bothered...

Off to have a look at the Welsh National and todays tips will be on Gambling Housewife later this morning.

Probably no tips tomorrow, Friday, as I am going back to stay at mum's tonight. She had a very bad day yesterday needing extra morphine for new pains in her back and has lost all use of her left leg. Poor soul is undergoing a terrible ordeal. Different GP visiting today, I hope he ensures she gets the best relief possible.

Wednesday Free Horse Racing Tips Newbury Jackpot

However I do not know when I will next be able to publish my tips as Mum remains mostly pain free but nausea a problem but are giving her an injection when nausea esp bad which seems to help. She is weaker every day, so much so that she cannot move unaided and bedsores are becoming a problem, poor soul. A positive is that she is much morre settled in her new room and there are one or three things that we can do which still give her some pleasure

Back off there later today, had a much needed night at home last night, crashed on sofa about 8pm....but nothing compared to her ordeal..

Mum is weakening every day that passes, she seems a lot happier since the move to room 13 ( I was surprised that a nursing home has a room thirteen) and relatively symptom free which is a relief for all. Mum said I could have my nanas copy of Elizabeth Craig's Cookery illustrated and Household management which has a weierd and wonderful collection of household hints...

for example:
"Corns, Cure for:

Soak some bread in vinegar for 2 days and put a piece as a poultice on the corn overnight, binding it on with a strip of rag. Every 3 days soak the feet in hot water and peel off a layer of the corn. Continue the treatment until the corn has disappeared"

5/1 racing winner

A good days horse racing for me yesterday with my first stop at a winner tip winning at 5/1 so 60+ points profit in just two days..

I was at mums most of last week because she is now very unwell and needing 24/7 care. Thank heavens a bed was available at the local hospice for her and that the pain and sickness seems under more control and she is comfortable. have to go back today to prepare for move to a local nursing home now mums symptoms seem to be controlled so todays tips will be on Gambling Housewife soon but then no tips until Friday sadly.
